Making Sense of Pain: A Self-Management Program 

 

Living with pain can be challenging, especially when faced with barriers to care. Making Sense of Pain is a free, group-based program designed to empower individuals with the knowledge, skills, and support needed to manage pain in daily life. Over 9 to 10 weeks, participants explore topics like pain science, stress management, movement, sleep, and self-compassion—all in a welcoming, facilitator-led setting. Each session includes time for learning, discussion, and social connection.

 

What You’ll Learn in This Workshop:

  • Understand how pain affects your body, mind, emotions, relationships, and overall well-being.
  • Learn how pain works in the brain and body before, during, and after painful events.
  • Discover practical skills and strategies to help manage pain in daily life.

 

Topics:

  • Session 1: Introductions and the biopsychosocial model of pain
  • Session 2: Pain science
  • Session 3: Stress & Stress Management
  • Session 4: Movement
  • Session 5: Sleep and Mood
  • Session 6: Social Support and Communication
  • Session 7: Nutrition
  • Session 8: Grief & Loss  
  • Session 9: Self-talk & Self-Compassion
  • Session 10: Wrap-up (optional)

Some programs will include a 1 or 2 week break after session five.  This program runs in- person with various community partners. If you are interested in Making Sense of Pain please contact us to be added to the waitlist
