Our relationships with food and our bodies are shaped by a complex interplay of biological, psychological, social, and cultural influences. This presentation will debunk common myths about eating disorders, examine the impacts of weight stigma and diet culture, and explore practical, evidence-informed approaches to supporting individuals in healthcare and community settings. Healthcare and community professionals will also gain a better understanding of emerging considerations related to GLP-1 medications and learn how to navigate conversations about weight and weight loss through a weight-inclusive lens.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the impact of weight stigma, diet culture, and weight-focused approaches on healthcare experiences, service delivery, and health outcomes.
  • Recognize common signs of disordered eating, eating disorder risk and prevalence, and body image concerns across diverse populations and body sizes.
  • Explore the risks, benefits, and emerging concerns related to GLP-1 medications through an eating disorder-informed lens.
  • Develop practical strategies for navigating conversations about weight, weight loss, body image, and health using a weight-inclusive and Health at Every Size® approach
