Living with a long-term health condition can be challenging. You do not have to do it alone.
Take Charge! workshops are free, friendly, and designed to help you build skills that make everyday life easier.
Each workshop is:
- 6 weeks long
- 2.5 hours each week
- Led by trained peer leaders who understand what it’s like to live with health challenges
- Supportive and welcoming — family members or caregivers can register too
Our workshops can help you feel more confident, manage symptoms, and take small steps toward healthier living.

Choose Your Workshop
Below are the three Take Charge! workshop options. Each covers general self-management skills, but also focuses on the specific needs of different health conditions.
*Caregivers are welcome to register
For adults living with any ongoing health condition.
This includes arthritis, heart or lung disease, anxiety, depression, digestive conditions, and many others.
You do not need a formal diagnosis to join.
What You Will Learn
- Managing symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, stress, or sadness
- Gentle ways to be active
- Eating for energy and overall health
- Problem-solving skills you can use every day
- How to make realistic weekly action plans
- Tips for working with health-care providers
This workshop is a good fit if:
- You want general tools to help with day-to-day living
- You live with a chronic condition
- You want support from others who “get it”
For adults living with long-lasting or persistent pain, such as back pain, nerve pain, joint pain, fibromyalgia, or pain that affects daily life.
What You Will Learn
- Understanding your pain and what affects it
- Pacing your activities so you can do more with less flare-up
- Gentle movement and stretching options
- How stress, sleep, and emotions affect pain
- Tools for relaxation and mindfulness
- Making weekly plans that support your energy and mobility
This workshop is a good fit if:
- Pain is part of your daily life
- You want tools beyond medication
- You want support from others who are also managing pain
For adults with Type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes, and for caregivers who support them.
What You Will Learn
- Understanding blood sugar and what affects it
- Food choices made simple
- Activity ideas that are safe for diabetes
- Medication basics (non-clinical, health-literacy level)
- Coping with stress, emotions, and daily routines
- Foot care and diabetes-related safety tips
- Setting small goals for healthier living
This workshop is a good fit if:
- You want everyday tools to help manage blood sugar
- You want simple, clear information
- You want encouragement and accountability
